Everyone gets nervous when they’re going to be scrutinized by a complete stranger. There are a few things to remember that will help you make a better first impression.
1. When you pick up the application, pick up a menu as well. Make sure you read it enough to remember a few things off the menu. The interest in their restaurant style will impress the interviewer.
2. Take a look at the dress code in the restaurant. If everyone is wearing black slacks, white shirt and a tie or vest, you’re looking at a up class place and should dress accordingly. If everyone is in a uniform polo or something similiar, don’t over dress for the occasion. A nice pair of pants and nice shirt will do.
3. If there are any special certifications required - bring copies of them with you. Giving verification of your information the day of the interview shows you are always prepared.
4. Learn what you can about the restaurant itself. Observe the type of clientelle without becoming a stalker.
5. Remember - the people interviewing you are just people. Take a deep breath, be natural and have a casual convrsation about a job opportunity.
GOOD LUCK!
