I thought it would be a nice idea to to a little study on why people blog. But what I didn’t want to do was interview high-profile bloggers, who’ve probably been asked this question a million times before - I wanted to find out why normal people blog. So here’s what I did instead…

Simple, really. A quick search on Technorati for “why I blog” did exactly what I wanted. And here are the reasons why the people on the first page of results blog.

From libraryvoice.com

I first began my Business Blog in March of 2004. I used it primarily to promote library resources to business students. I could point students to the blog in each library instruction class that I taught, so they could go to the blog to find appropriate resources for their projects. I now have a wiki that points students to more broad business resources, so now the Business Blog is expanding into business topics and current issues as well.

I began my professional blog, Library Voice, in January of this year. I was reading blogs of other librarians for quite some time, and I wanted to contribute to what was going on in the blogosphere. I really didn’t have many expectations for a huge number of readers, I just wanted a place where I could put my own ideas down in writing.

I have comments! Some one has been reading my blog! Because I really started this just for my own benefit, and I have taken some care to disguise names, I’m not sure how I feel about strangers reading this. Really I just sort of talk to myself, nothing important. A way to work out my feelings? Maybe that is why I blog? I’ll think about it.

I look for things to pull me out, distract me, while I still face my issues head on. Music is one. More on that in another post. The other is blogging. That’s why I blog. No offense, but I don’t blog for my readers. I love y’all, I really do, but I blog for me. I like to sit down at the end of the day and laugh at the crap that’s been thrown my way.

Well just found out today I was fired by email, and for all thing, get this, because I have been out for the last 3 months on disability. Can I do anything about it, apparently not due to this crap “right to work” law, which is a nice clause for employers who want to be able to drop you anytime any place for nothing. Hell they don’t even have to give a reason, as long as it saves them money… seems to be the rule these days. Screw the employee, just as long as the profits are large.

So now what to do… at this point I can’t even pay rent, let along get food. I wonder just how long it will be before I end up on the streets. Wonderful time of the year for it, gee I should thank them for the early xmas present. Thinking my only hope is to try and sell my book door to door, already sold everything else of value, even tried to sell an organ, got nothing left. All I can hope for is a miracle from God himself.

Anyone got any ideas…? Does anyone give a rats butt… that’s why I blog, only place to0 say what I want knowing the odds are no one will ever read it, yet there is always that bit of hope.

First, I don’t know why I blog, or even if I will continue. It began as a passing comment to my friend Ellen. I told her I was going to blog about something we have discussed,I have yet to do, but I will..one day. When I do, you will know Ellen, and that time is coming..

In any case why I blog still boils down to one thing. It is who I am!!!

Obviously, I have not blogged over the weekends events, since i can not adequately show how fantastic the weekend was. That would be Steve blogging, and he is a moron. I am not Steve. I have no identity, thus I do not suffer the pitfalls of living as much. I am Nameless.

However, that is not why I blog. I blog to reveal my plans for the forthcoming year of 2006. It is early, yes, but breaking with tradition seems to be the staple for 2005, so I do not believe my actions here will lead to global catastrophe, or indeed any other level of mishap.

Dontcha just *love* eavesdropping?
