Good to see our blogging colleagues in the US are monitoring newsfeeds from over here.

Picking up on the “Xmas can be frightening….!” story the report:

http://educationwonk.blogspot.com/2005/12/official-british-christmas-advice.html

was very accurate – but the bloggers comment at the end of the piece:

“Every time I read a story like this, it gives me a better understanding of why the children of the British ruling classes attend such elite schools as this while those same policy-makers relegate children of the less privileged to attend schools like that.”

is neither fair nor accurate!

The “as this” link takes you direct to the Eton College website while the “like that” link takes you to

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/south_west/4433488.stm

and a story about a girl in a comprehensive school in South Wales who was treated for facial injuries after an assault by a fellow pupil.

I have no idea what that South Wales comprehensive school is like but I’m willing to guess that it is probably a good school, with good teachers and good students who are actually privileged, pleased and proud to attend a school like that!

To suggest that policy makers relegate children of the less privileged to attend schools “like that” is both misleading and wrong! How on earth does it give the writer “a better understanding of why children of the British ruling classes attend such elite schools……”

Are all US schools perfect?

I think not – but you might know better!
