Increasingly teachers attending job interviews are asked to display their wares by teaching a selected group of pupils who will then judge them on their performance.

The same group of pupils will be involved for everyone attending the interview and each group will be asked to score the candidates according to their subject knowledge, their personalities, their confidence, their control and possibly several other criteria too.

The views of these pupils will be taken into account and candidates for any teaching post should be well prepared for their pupil interview or pupil teaching session. As we all know, the kids themselves are the harshest judges and sometimes they are the fairest too because they can generally see through much of the b—s–t that can be hurled about by candidates in an interview situation.

More tomorrow.
