On Interview - Be prepared to teach (3)
OK, here’s the first of the tips:
The kids you’ll work with will be probably the best and most articulate in the school.
There will be at least one rogue in the group.
The kids will ask questions cos they’ve been primed to do so.
The brightest of them will ask the easiest questions.
The rogue(s) will ask the hardest and stupidest questions and that will allow the brightest to make judgements on how well you answer.
You have to judge which are the hardest and which are the stupidest questions.
You have to judge which are the brightest children and which are the rogues – this will be difficult!
You must plan this “lesson”. Nothing can or should be left to chance.
Your planning must be flexible, yet at the same time it should be quite structured.
Never rely on planning your demonstration lesson around computers or any other form of technology because you can almost guarantee things can go wrong.
If you really want to do this then plan a big, powerful backup lesson because things will go wrong!
Don’t rely on the kids to help you out!
More tomorrow.
