edgeio: a brand new way to make money from your blog.
Advertising, donations, subscriptions, merchandise sales. They might be working for your blog, or they might not be. Either way, you’ll shortly be able to try out yet another way to use your blog to earn some cash.
edgeio is a new online classifieds application. It lets you use your blog (or other RSS enabled site) to list things you want to sell. It’s still in closed beta, so I’ve not actually seen it in action, but the way it will work sounds simple. In fact, all you need to do is post the item you’re selling as a blog entry and give it a tag named ‘listing’, then claim your blog at the edgeio site.
That’s it.
Once you’re done, your item will appear on the edgeio site for all to see. And buy, hopefully. Plus, your regular readers will also see your item for sale which gives it more of a chance to sell.
I think the kind of bloggers it will appeal to will most likely be those who currently use Ebay for a lot of their selling. Looks like this will do a similar job for zero (or at least, less) fees, and all from the comfort of your own blog, too.

The hype on this edgeio is really getting on my nerves for some reason. I don’t see it as groundbreaking. It’s more like naval gazing for bloggers. if you don’t have a blog (i.e. most people) then it means nothing.
But here’s what I wanted to ask. Where did you get that picture? (The TV in the woods.)I love it!

Yeah… but then it’s mainly directed at people who blog anyway. And there’s *only* a couple hundred million of ‘em.
;o)
There’s one part that I just don’t get, though. Anyone can tag any single blog entry with the word ‘listing’. So who’s gonna sort through all the crap and spam that will also have the ‘listing’ tag, and check whether they’re actually items that people are selling? Or not?
And that image is from istockphoto.com. Can’t remember what I searched for, tho.
