The Body Shop Sold to L’Oreal
In a turn that has surprised many of The Body Shops customers and employees, Anita Roddick has sold The Body Shop cosmetics chain to L’Oreal for $314 million (US). The Body Shop was founded with high ethics and strong feelings about things such as the use of animal testing, recycled packaging and exploitation of women in the cosmetics industry. Ms. Roddick is under fire now - but L’Oreal says they are committed to learning from The Body Shop - we will see if that comes to pass, or if Ms. Roddick is simply a whole lot richer now.
