Software for Surgery Nurses
Practice makes perfect. This couldn’t be more true than for surgical nurses who are involved in setting up operating rooms with complicated equipment, instruments, and patients. At St. Vincent Healthcare in Montana, Dr. Mike Schweitzer and his son, Frederick, developed a series of photographs and text using PowerPoint that help nurses review how everything should be done.
Because each PEER lesson lasts less than five minutes, nurses can use any computer in the surgery department to review specific set-up procedures for any number of surgical procedures even in the few minutes before an emergency operation is to be done. Best of all, PEER can be adapted to other departments as well including the intensive care unit and the emergency room.
Now nurses can rest easy knowing that they don’t have to turn to their grumpy, unreliable colleague for help.
